Full participation of both men and women is critical for a nation's development. Only acknowledging men's involvement will not be beneficial to sustainable development. Many of the barriers to women's empowerment and equality lie ingrained in cultural norms. Many women feel these pressures, while others have become habitual being treated inferior to men. In the context of women and development, empowerment must include more choices for women to make on their own.
